Why choose it
High altitude and serious terrain. It feels more like a skier's mountain than a soft holiday resort.
Terrain and daily flow
300 km of marked skiing across a linked high-altitude area. The current official guide lists 161 runs and 71 lifts.
Useful on the ground
Strong ski-school base, glacier access when conditions allow, freeride guiding, snow parks and a reliable bus/resort link between Tignes and Val d'Isère.
Choose your base
The village changes altitude, atmosphere and how quickly you reach the day's first lift.
Val Claret
Best for a sporty, lively stay and direct access toward the Grande Motte sector; expect a busier evening atmosphere.
Tignes le Lac or Lavachet
Le Lac is the practical central base for shops and services; Lavachet is quieter and relies more on lifts or the free shuttle.
Tignes 1800
A family-oriented village with beginner space and a ski return, useful for groups that value calm over nightlife.
Les Brévières
The most traditional and lowest base. It has direct domain access, but returning from the high sectors takes planning.
Val d'Isère
La Daille is efficient for the Tignes link, the centre is strongest for services, and Le Fornet suits a quieter east-end base.
Pass and terrain plan
The linked pass matters when the group will genuinely use both sides.
Beginners
Start in the free or progressive beginner zones near the chosen village. Do not make the Tignes-Val d'Isère crossing the first objective.
Intermediates
Use Tovière or the La Daille side for a planned link, then set a return time. Visibility and wind can change the sensible route.
Early and late season
A partial Tignes product may be sold before or after the full link operates. Read the date-specific pass scope rather than the brand name.
Before you book
High altitude improves the snow proposition but does not remove operational limits.
Ski-in / ski-out
Confirm the building entrance and return route. A village may have slope access while a particular apartment still requires a shuttle.
Transfers
Most public-transport arrivals route through Bourg-Saint-Maurice. Check the onward coach against the accommodation check-in time.
Wind and links
Glacier and high connecting lifts are exposed. Keep a village-level alternative for days when the full crossing is not practical.
